When you download an agreement from TIS, the file is saved as an HTML file. Apple Pages does not support this file type, so Mac users may see an error when trying to open the document.
The easiest workaround is to open the file using Google Docs.
Option 1: Open the Agreement Using Google Docs
Follow these steps if you are using a Mac and do not have Microsoft Word installed.
Download the agreement from TIS as usual. The file will save as an .html file.
Open Google Drive in your web browser and sign in to your Google account.
Upload the downloaded HTML file to Google Drive.
You can drag and drop the file into Drive, or
Click “New,” then “File upload,” and select the file.
Once the upload is complete, right click on the file in Google Drive.
Select “Open with,” then choose “Google Docs.”
The agreement will open normally and can be viewed, printed, or downloaded as a PDF or Word document if needed.
Option 2: Open the Agreement Using Microsoft Word
If you have Microsoft Word installed on your computer, or access to Word through Microsoft 365, you will not experience this issue.
Download the agreement from TIS.
Open Microsoft Word.
Open the downloaded HTML file directly in Word.
Word fully supports HTML files, so no additional steps are required.
Option 3: Open with LibreOffice
LibreOffice is a free, open-source word processing program supported by a non-profit. Install LibreOffice by visiting this URL and downloading the program: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/
Once installed, use it to open the documents you've downloaded from TIS. You can also save the file in Pages format to use in the future.
Good to Know
This issue only affects users trying to open agreements with Apple Pages.
Google Docs and Microsoft Word both support HTML files and will open the document without errors.
For questions about converting or editing files beyond these steps, we recommend working with your website platform or IT professional.
